Greyfriars

Every year on a Midsummer evening the idyllic setting of Greyfriars, Winchelsea becomes the backdrop for a wonderful evening of operatic entertainment. Set among the ruins of this magnificent 14th century Abbey, Greyfriars Opera has become a major fundraising event in the East Sussex and Kent calendars.

The 2010 event, a performance of Donizetti’s light-hearted tale of romance, The Elixir of Love, was a great success and raised over £25,000 which will be divided amongst the following charities: St Michael's Hospice, Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital, SIMCAS, Friends of the Ancient Monuments (FOAM), Hastings & Rother Counselling Service, The Friends of the Home Physiotherapy Service Sussex, Help for Heroes and the Sara Lee Trust.

The next event will take place on Saturday 18th June 2011.
Details to be announced later in 2010.
